Antique French leather bound marbled book from 1838 - Manuel des Justices de Paix, Tome 2.
The 12th edition of the 19th century French law book the Manuel des Justices de Paix - Volume 2 by M. Levasseur published in Paris in 1838.
The book is 186 years old and is a wonderful record of French law at the time. I found it in a Brocante in South West France as I am passionate about preserving marbled papers. It has signs of aging as expected of a book of this age. The leather spine is damaged and split from halfway down on the front side and at the bottom of the back side. The leather on the back of the spine is worn away.
The cover marbled paper is in a stone pattern cream and brown and the inside cover pages are in the stone pattern of brown, cream and blues.
It would be an ideal as a decorative piece in a book shelf or a project for a bookbinder to restore the leather spine.
The inside pages are a little stiff.
The text is in French.
